Track Update - 4/10

Darts -
We are officially 1/2 way through the track season - but we have most of our meets to come (and the most important meets still to come). It was a busy week with the District Championships, the Arcadia trip, and Junior Prom. Hopefully the next few weeks feel a bit calmer and we can get ourselves focused and preparing for the Davis Invite, Region, and State.

District Championships - Both the girls and boys were victorious this past week out at Syracuse. The girls scored 215 points for the win (Syracuse was 2nd with 125). The boys scored 204 (Viewmont was 2nd with 123). On the girls side, we won with only a few individual titles. Whitney Cox had a great meet in the high jump to finish 1st with a PR 5'02. Aubrey Argyle was the district champ in the 1600 - leading a 1-11 Davis girls sweep in that event. And Grace Neuenschwander ran a PR in the 3200 to get the victory. We had a TON of our points coming from our relays and our depth in all of the events. It was a solid TEAM effort. On the boys side, we had individual victories from sophomore, Xakai Harry with a new District Record in the long jump of 22'11 (it was also the Syracuse stadium record and Davis #3 All-Time). Jaron Erickson was District Champion in the 110m Hurdles with a season best of 14.89. With only those 2 individual championships, our TEAM did a great job scoring with depth and teamwork. Arcadia Invitational - We had a solid group attend the Arcadia (CA) track meet this year. It was a rainy weekend in California (despite having the sun in Utah). The conditions made it a bit difficult to compete, but we did come home with quite a few PRs and season best performances. We had 6 boys run under 9:45 in the 3200 - led by Frasier Williamson with 9:28. Our boys DMR (Distance Medley Relay) finished 2nd in the invited heat with a new school record and the U.S. #4 time of 10:14. That team consisted of Colter Blanchard, Jake Moffett, Dalllin Larsen, and Logan MacKay. Bryce Ferguson ran a PR in the mile with 4:20. Alicia Halverson (just a freshman) won the 1600 and 3200 rising stars races (for freshman and sophomores) at the Tiger Invite at the neighboring school - both races were PRs. Jenna Connell ran a 1600m PR of 5:10. Aubrey Argyle continued her strong comeback with a 10:41 in the 3200. Jaron Erickson had his season best in the 300 Hurdles and nearly a season best in the 110 hurdles. Our girls 300 Hurdlers and sprinters put together some great individual and relay performances in the pouring rain (Melanie Sullivan, Brittney Rounkles, Megan Rowe, and Ruby Jane Mathewson). Sarah Waddoups and Sam Hedquist both ran strong 3200 PRs of 11:19. And it was encouraging to see Courtney Wayment get back in action with a solid relay 800m split. We had some struggles, but we gained some experience that I think will help us down the stretch. Results can be seen at http://finishedresults.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Arcadia/

Syracuse & Hunter @ Davis - we will host a region tri-meet this week on Wednesday against Syracuse and Hunter. You will be able to pick up to 4 events to compete in. I encourage you to do some of your normal events, but to also try something new or different (in everything but the pole vault and javelin - unless you have practiced). This meet will begin at 3:00pm and will follow the standard dual meet schedule (which I will email out tomorrow). It seems crazy to say this, but this will be the final chance to qualify for your event for the Davis Invitational (qualifications based on marks), so make sure to do your best and go after a PR!
*Everyone is excused at 2:00 to come out and get ready for the meet.
